Oyster Stew Recipe

My new Squidoo friend, Dianne, shared one of her favorite oyster recipes with me:


2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Dash hot sauce
1 pint shucked oysters not drained
1/4 cup butter
1 quart milk, scalded

Blend flour, seasonings and 2 tablespoons water in a 3 quart soup kettle.
Add undrained oysters and butter. Simmer over very low heat 3 to 4
minutes till edges of oysters curl, stirring gently. Add hot milk;
remove from heat and cover. Let stand 15 minutes. Reheat briefly. Top
each serving with a pat of butter. Serves 4 or 5.

For those who don't like whole oysters but like the flavor, whirl the oysters in the blender before adding to the stew.

"I'm sending you this email because desperately we need your help to save the Drakes Bay Oyster Farm.

As you probably know, Kevin and Nancy Lunny lease their oyster farm property from the National Park Service. This lease is set to expire within the next growth cycle of their oysters so it is very important to get the lease renewed as soon as possible. Unfortunately there are those in the Park Service who are not supportive of local farmers and they are doing everything they can to prevent the lease from being extended.

The decision to renew the lease is in the hands of the Secretary of Interior, Ken Salazar. It is extremely important that Secretary Salazar hear from citizens who want the oyster farm to stay in business. This is where we need your help. It will really make a difference.
